Native Plant Giveaway

The Native Plant Giveaway encourages residents to use indigenous plants in private gardens to further establish ecosystem connectivity with conservation reserves.

During this plant giveaway session residents have the opportunity to collect a box of mixed native plants from Newport Lakes Native Nursery. Each box will contain, wildflowers and grasses ideal for habitat gardens. There will also be a selection of trees and shrubs for those Habitat Gardens with larger spaces. There is a limit of one box per household for Hobsons Bay City Council residents. Priority will be given to residents who have NOT previously participated in a Habitat Gardens or Native Plant Giveaway program. 

There will be Conservation Team members and Newport Lakes Native Nursery staff available to assist on the day.

The Native Plant giveaway event is supported through the Habitat Gardens in Hobson Bay program that aims to establish greater genetic diversity, habitat for wildlife, food sources and stepping stones across the municipality to lower risk of species loss.
