Two seed collection workshops will be run by Trees for Life Seed Bank staff as part of the Coastal Dune Rehabilitation Project.

9:30 - 11:30am on Saturday 17 June OR Monday 19 June (note you will be prompted to select a date when booking your ticket).

Spend the morning in the field collecting seed, while also discussing a range of topics, including:

Ecological considerations (i.e. use of local seed)
Methods of collection and extraction
Ethical practices
Permits

Preference will be given to volunteers of local environmental groups.

However members of the public are also welcome to attend the Saturday morning session.

Please note that collection of native seed is only allowed with the correct permits issued from DEW and the permission of the relevant authority or landholder. This workshop is to provide volunteers with seed collection skills to allow them to contribute to native plant propagation at community nurseries and to add to local rehabilitation projects.

The Coastal Sand Dune Rehabilitation Project is a volunteer led project of Semaphore Largs Dunes Group, Taperoo Dunes, Friends of North Haven Sand Dunes and Port Adelaide Residents Environment Protection Group (PAREPG). This project is supported by Green Adelaide and the City of Port Adelaide Enfield.

Meeting spot: These workshops will be run entirely in the field, in a coastal location between Semaphore and North Haven. We will confirm the exact location with those registered closer to the date. This is to ensure we are at a site with good seed availability.

What to bring:

gloves
secateurs and safety glasses (if you have them, some spares available on the day)
drink bottle and snacks
hat and sunscreen
long sleeves, long pants and covered shoes
please dress appropriately for the weather forecast

About the Coastal Sand Dune Rehabilitation Project

The Coastal Sand Dune Rehabilitation Project is an ongoing project contributing to the maintenance, restoration, and enhancement of the coastal dune system and Biodiversity Park on LeFevre Peninsula. The aim of the project is to increase biodiversity through re-vegetation, weed and pest control, and to create a coastal and coast to river biodiversity link over time.

This project is funded by Green Adelaide and the City of Port Adelaide Enfield. The project received funding from the Green Adelaide Grassroots Grants program in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

This is a volunteer led initiative of the Semaphore Largs Dunes Group, Taperoo Dunes Group, Friends of North Haven Sand Dunes, Port Adelaide Resident’s Environment Protection Group (PAREPG).

Port Environment Centre is pleased to be supporting this local, volunteer driven project.
