Indigenous peoples have been carrying out the practice of Eco Dye for thousands of years & passing on this knowledge.
This eco dyeing workshop provides an opportunity to connect to the natural environment and promote sustainable practices through the use of these traditional dyeing methods using natural and found objects. Join Kylie as she guides you through experimenting with swatches of fabric using different plant materials (readily available native plants like eucalyptus & food waste such as onion skins.) You will then progress to dyeing a garment of your choice using provided organic unbleached calico bags.

Trainer Bio:

Kylie (she/her) is a proud Darug & Wiradjuri First Nations person who grew up in country NSW, residing on the Mornington Peninsula for the past decade.
As a certified Nature Based Therapist and Wayapa Instructor (ancient earth indigenous movement practice) and Shinrin Yoku Practitioner her focus is on using nature for wellness.
Kylie is passionate about embedding culture into everyday life and cooking with native ingredients, foraging, bush dyeing and nature journaling are some of her favourite pursuits.

  • How to safely prepare a Dye Bath specifically for dyeing with Native plants
  • How to pre-mordant for popular garden plants
  • How to care for your pieces afterwards
  • Useful tips for how to bundle dye and work with different fabrics
  • About the benefits of using Native Plants.

What to bring

  • Any additional plants or food waste from Home if you wish (plenty of items will also be provided)
  • A white or light garment of your choice you wish to dye (calico bags and plenty of fabric swatches will be provided)
    note: no Lycra fabric please as this is dye resistant

    Refund policy

    CERES reserves the right to cancel workshops due to insufficient numbers. If we cancel the workshop you will be entitled to a 100% refund, or you may choose to transfer to another date, subject to availability. If you decide to withdraw 7 or more days prior to the workshop date CERES will retain a 10% administration fee. If you decide to withdraw less than 7 days prior to the workshop date CERES will retain 100% of your workshop fee. Should CERES have to cancel the course due to Government changes relating to the COVD-19 response, we will let you know as soon as possible. Affected participants will be sent notification which includes details on how to re-book another date or workshop. While cancellations on our part remain refundable within the specified time period, we do hope you will consider bearing with us in these precarious and trying times, and consider the rescheduled date where possible.
