Join special guest artist and skill sharer, Coralee, for this workshop in Natural Dyeing and Pre-Mordanting

Participants will learn: 

  • Skills in natural dyeing AKA eco-dyeing.
  • What fibers are best for natural dyeing and how to prepare them
  • Which local plants and food waste is best and their colour potentials
  • Pre-mordanting techniques to produce bright and long lasting colours on cellulose fibres.
  • Japanese shibori technique 
  • How to care for naturally dyed and printed fabrics


Who is this workshop suitable for?

  • Suitable for adult participants and young people aged 14 years and older.
    This is an inclusive and supportive workshop, no experience needed. 
    If you attended the previous workshop this one will build your knowledge of eco dyeing and pre-mordants.

What is provided?

  • Plant material and food waste
  • Different mordants to experiment with
  • Equipment required for bundling and heating
  • Light refreshments
  • Fabric for shibori experimentation

BYO fabric 

  • Please bring along a natural white fabric -silk, wool, cotton, linen etc. Prewashed or second hand is best. 
  • Animal derived fabrics like silk and wool deliver better results.

 
Other things to note:

  • Please BYO gloves
  • Wear clothes to get messy or bring an apron
  • You can bring plants from your garden to experiment with
  • Morning tea & snacks provided - please advise dietary restrictions when registering
  • Participant numbers are limited to 10. 

This workshop is delivered by Coralee from Inspired by Nature, as part of our series of Resourceful Workshops at the Neighbourhood Centre & Warrane Community Garden.

This 3 hour workshop is offered to our local community at a special discounted rate of only $40.00. If you are keen to attend and this is not within your budget please get in touch!

Please note, this event will be held at the Garden but may relocate to the Warrane Mornington Neighbourhood Centre if weather is unsuitable.
