Natural Fabric Dyeing with Elly Sumner

Price $40 – $60 AUD + BF Get tickets

Event description

This workshop is about getting back to the roots of fabric dyeing. We will explore fabric dyeing with natural pigments, many of which are found right in our own gardens! We will be using old school techniques combined with new age thinking. We will explore three dyeing techniques - steaming, pounding and tie dye. You will get hands on and will be able to take your dyed item home with you.

Steaming - With this technique we will be dyeing one of YOUR shirts. It needs to be a light coloured, natural fiber, non stretchy shirt. Please drop this to the Farm the week prior on either Tues, Thurs or Saturday morning so Elly can prepare them so the dye will hold. If this is tricky for you we can use a tea towel that Elly can provide.

Pounding - With this technique we will be dying cotton tea towels that Elly will provide.

Tie-dyeing - Elly will demonstrate this process so you can note the technique and try it yourself at home.
