Natural Guardians Reserve Visit 2021
Event description
We warmly invite you to join us on this year's experience - thank you for being part of a very special community.
A stone’s throw from Tasmania’s iconic Cradle Valley and the Tasmanian Land Conservancy’s (TLC) Vale of Belvoir Reserve lies a hidden glade filled with rich floristic diversity and unique Tasmanian wildlife. Daisy Dell Reserve is part of an important natural corridor linking the intact habitats of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area with the forests of the northern tiers. A mosaic of subalpine grasslands, sedgelands, eucalypt woodlands and rainforest, Daisy Dell adjoins the Iris Farm Private Nature Reserve and another private bush block, which will both be generously bequeathed to the TLC. This cluster of properties amounts to 322 hectares and provides important habitat within a priority highland landscape. We can’t wait to explore the area with you.
When: Saturday, October 9, 10am Arrive anytime from 9.15, but please by no later than 10.00.
Where: Daisy Dell Reserve, 3131591 Cradle Mountain Road, MIDDLESEX.
Keep an eye out for the TLC event sign and big yellow boom gate. TLC staff will be there to meet you and help you park your vehicles
Lunch: Will be provided, picnic style. Please ensure you let us know of dietary requirements when you register.
Choose your preferred adventure:
To cater to varied physical abilities, interests, or time constraints, we will have two groups, visiting separate parts of the properties (and then joining back up again to share lunch at Ike's Hut – Iris Farm Nature Reserve).
Option 1 – Daisy Dell and Iris Farm Nature Reserve Meander
Gently wander across these conjoined properties on a guided circuit tour. TLC staff will share details of the significant flora and fauna on the reserve and TLC's management regimes.
Option 2 - Deep Forest Waterfall Hike
Travel deep into the rainforest, picking your way down a steep valley slope (and later back up again). Follow a historic, disused man-made water race slowly being reclaimed by nature, all the way to the majestic Water Race Falls.
A good level of fitness will be required for this option.
Upon registration, please don’t forget to express which group you would like to join.
What to bring with you
The spring weather as we know is unpredictable, so please come prepared.
Please bring:
- your own cup for morning tea/coffee
- sturdy walking shoes (the terrain is uneven in parts)
- a day pack
- long walking pants or gaiters
- your own water bottle
- snacks
- a sun hat
- a warm top
- a rain jacket
- sunscreen and insect repellent
- binoculars and a camera (optional). There are plenty of great things to see!
Your safety is our priority
The TLC is committed to following Covid-safe practices. We'll ask you to check in on arrival using either the Tasmanian government app or paper and pen.
If by any chance plans need to be rescheduled, we will ensure you are notified within 24 hours before the day.
We hope you can join us
Bequests play a crucial role in ensuring our important work for nature continues well into the future. We would love the opportunity to thank you in person for your profound commitment to nature conservation in Tasmania. Not to mention, it's just bound to be fun.
For those planning to stay in the area the night before, please feel free to join TLC staff and other supporters for an informal dinner at the Cradle Mountain Tavern Bar and Bistro from 6.30pm.
As always, places for the trip will be limited, so please register as soon as you can.
The TLC acknowledges the original owners of the land, the Tasmanian Aboriginal people, and we pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging.
