Event description

  • Tuesday, April 15th 10am to 3pm
  • The Art Room @ Kickstart Arts
  • Teenagers Ages (13 - 17)
  • Mature younger children are welcome to request a spot, especially if they have siblings in the group
  • 10 attendees max

*Please note these activities are for young people only. Parents are welcome to stay and observe. You do not need a ticket to do so, but we kindly request you let us know in advance.

In this workshop, we’ll connect with nature by collecting local materials to use in our art-making. We’ll experiment with natural printing techniques on fabric and watercolour paper, as well as eco-dyeing, and shibori/tie-dyeing with food waste and modifiers. We’ll also try Hapa-zome (plant pounding) on fabric and flower painting on watercolour paper.

Throughout the workshop, we’ll create wearable art, gain new skills to take home, and deepen our connection to ourselves, nature, and the community—while discovering practices that support both our well-being and the earth.

Is there anything I need to bring?
Materials are all supplied, but please:

    • Put sunblock on before you arrive, and bring along a hat, as we’ll be spending time outside
    • Wear an apron and covered shoes as we’ll be working with water
    • Bring a drink and lunch

The Kickstart Arts Youth Program is supported by the Tasmanian Government, Creative Hobart and Mystate Bank.
