Nature Care days are much more than just volunteering—they’re a chance to reconnect with nature, contribute to meaningful ecological restoration, and be part of a long-term impact on our local environment.

This is your opportunity to work directly on the vital Mandoon Moitch Restoration Project at Guildford Meadows!

About the Site - Guildford Meadows (Mandoon Moitch Restoration Project):

Located on the banks of the Derbal Yerrigan (Swan River) in Caversham, this project contains a significant remnant wetland, once surrounded by riparian vegetation and a Eucalyptus rudis (Moitch / Flooded Gum) Woodland. Largely cleared for grazing in the 1930s, this area is now a part of Whiteman Park and is recognized as an area of significant environmental importance, which is also home to registered cultural sites of the local Noongar people.

This site is a vital refuge that we are actively working to restore, rebuilding lost habitat to provide sanctuary for threatened and at-risk native animal species.

Home to: The endangered Carnaby's Black Cockatoo, the threatened Forest Red-tailed Black Cockatoo, Rakali (native water rat), and a wide variety of birds and other wildlife.
Key Species: We focus on planting species like Moitch (Eucalyptus rudis), which creates large nesting hollows, and Koorlee (Casuarina obesa), a vital food and habitat source for Black Cockatoos. Other key plants include Boorarup (Banksia littoralis) and Mohan (Melaleuca viminea).
The Project: Our conservation efforts are focused on protecting and restoring these important wetland ecosystems in urban environments, contributing to greater biodiversity and ecological health.

Every task directly supports the survival and success of native plantings and helps create healthier habitats for wildlife.
