Event description

Join us for a half-day walk open to all, no experience required but participants need to come with an open mind. More and more research is showing that spending time in nature has benefits for health and wellbeing. But simply being in nature is not sufficient, what matters most is our relationship to nature and our connection with nature; how we think about nature, do we feel part of nature and how do we experience nature. This deeper involvement creates deeper respect and appreciation and leads to caring for nature. On this walk we will engage in simple nature connection practices and mindfulness activities. The aim is to fully immerse ourselves and go beyond simply walking in nature. For further information on the science, benefits and practice of nature connectedness please see the “Nature Connectedness Research Group” at the University of Derby, UK. (www.derby.ac.uk/research/centres-groups/nature-connectedness-research-group/).

The practicalities:The walk is about 5km to 6km long from Lake Tabourie to Termeil Point along the beach and then return inland (or vice versa, depending on the weather conditions). The terrain is  beach walking, some rock hopping and a forest track.Bring something for morning tea on the way (you may want to bring a thermos), hat, comfortable walking shoes. You may want to bring binoculars.
