EXPLORE, LEARN, GROW

We believe that no one is too young to foster a love of te taiao, our natural environment. With this in mind, we have created an immersive, interactive learning programme for children to engage with different aspects of environmental sustainability. 

• Nature based learning programme for children aged 3 - 6 years old. 

• Immersive and interactive activities in the great outdoors during summer.

• Play and learn about the environment, sustainability & teamwork.

• Linked to the Ministry of Education's early childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki’s strands - Wellbeing – Mana Atua, Belonging – Mana Whena, Contribution – Mana Tangata and Exploration – Mana Aotūroa.
  
  

Venue = Sylvan Park, Sylvan Park Ave, Milford.

Cost = $5 per child for 1 session* Your contribution helps sustain our organisation and enables us to continue our environmental efforts.

Time (during school term): 
Wednesdays = 1pm - 2pm
One Saturday per month = 11am - 12pm

Description of activities :
1) February's theme - The natural outdoors & Sea Week
Objective - Build comfort and familiarity with the outdoors. Understand that we are all part of a wider ecosystem and have a responsibility to take care of our natural surroundings.
Activity - Exploring the outdoors using our 5 senses. Touch, smell, sight, sound, taste (or lack of).

2) March's theme (International Forest Day and Parks Week) - Trees and their benefits
Objective - Understand how important trees are to our world. Learn about temperature changes under shady trees. Find out how trees grow from seeds.
Activity - Exploring a local park to learn about different trees (natives and non-natives), make tree and leaf rubbings that we will put together to make a giant tree for the classroom.

3) April's theme (Earth Day) - Reducing our impact on the environment
Objective - Learn about how the way we live can impact our natural environment. How do we get rid of food waste in our homes. What can we do to make use of this rich energy source.
Activity - Interact with a compost system, see how long different types of food have been decomposing for and what can and can’t go into a backyard compost bin. Children will have an opportunity to take some compost and use it to plant a seed in a gro-pot to take home.
