Nature Journaling at Fernglen Native Plant Gardens - SUMMER
Description
Nature Journaling is a great way to get back to nature, bringing with it a sense of calm and well-being, an antidote to our busy, tech driven lives.
So come along and join me for a couple of hours observing and journaling the flora and fauna of Fernglen Native Gardens.
No artistic ability is required, just a desire to connect more with nature.
What is Nature journaling?
With just the basics of paper and pencil, you will learn how look and recognise the things in nature that you appreciate and that bring you pleasure. You will leave with notes and ideas, allowing you to carry on at home, on holiday, or whenever you get the chance!
Through using a series of prompts you will soon be in a relaxed frame of mind documenting your natural finds in words and sketches.
This is an ideal activity to do with children and this could be the start of lifetime love of the natural world around them.
What better way to build a lasting creative connection with the environment!
I will be running a session at the gardens 4 times a year so we can see the changes throughout the seasons.
These will be advertised on my website, and tickets available through Humanitix.com
Where:
36 Kauri Road (between house numbers 34 and 38),
Birkenhead, Auckland
Meet at the Education room in the gardens - you can't miss it!
When:
Saturday 16th January 2027, 11am - 1pm
Although this session is for 2 hours, you are very welcome to stay longer if you wish as the gardens are open until 5pm.
Rain day - Sunday 24th January, same time
Cost:
Adult - $20
Child under 14 with paying adult - $10
10% of ticket sales will be donated to Fernglen Native Gardens so they can continue their valuable work maintaining the gardens.
What to bring:
Essential materials will be provided - pencils, colour pencils, paper and clipboards, but feel free to bring your own art materials and sketchbook. A magnifying glass would be useful if you have one!
Oh, and bring a rug or chair to sit on! Ideally, we will be outside, but if it is bad weather, we will be inside.

- Is it wheelchair accessible?
No, sorry, the pathways are too narrow and winding for wheelchairs
- Are there public toilets there?
Yes, there are toilets for you to use.
- What happens if the weather is bad?
If the forecast is for bad weather, I will notify ticket holders the day before.
If the weather deteriorates while we are there, we can go into the education room.
