Nature Journaling at the Blue Mountains

Explore the stunning Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, Nature Journal in hand. 
Nature journals are an accessible, hands-on way to engage people of all ages in learning, slowing down and connecting with nature. Nature journaling teaches the skills of observation, perception, inquiry (asking questions), and making connections.  Through observation and wonder, explore and express your creativity using words, pictures, and numbers.
Each session will be facilitated by a Garden Educator, an inspired artist and nature enthusiast, who will guide you to different parts of the garden, from the Spring blooms, cascading waterfalls to the lush Rainforest, and provide instruction and prompts to begin your Nature Journaling journey. 

Who: These classes are beginner friendly. No prior experience with drawing or journaling is required. 

You are encouraged to attend the first session ‘Introduction to Nature Journaling’ and then as many of the others in a series as you want. Continuing your Nature Journaling journey to build your confidence, skills and create an even deeper connection to the natural world around you. 

Where: Meet at the Waratah Education Centre Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah 

When: Sunday Mornings |10am – 12:30pm inclusive of a shared morning tea

  • Sunday 16 Feb 2025 – The Blue Mountains Rainforest 

Cost: $90 per ticket | $81 for Foundation and Friends members

What to bring: You are welcome to bring your own art materials – An A5 art journal, Artline pen, lead pencil and rubber and a set of coloured pencils/watercolour pencils.  

OR choose to purchase the Beginners Starter Pack ($12) with your ticket. 

What's included 

  • A5 art journal

  • A set of basic watercolour pencils 
  • Lead pencil 
  • Paint brush 
  • Eraser 
  • Pencil case 

Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. We will be walking throughout the Garden during each class, please be mindful of the hilly nature of the site and uneven surfaces. Be prepared for the weather, bring a hat, warm jacket and rain coat. 

Optional: A hiking portable stool, or a pillow, or a blanket or similar for comfort sitting down to journal. A Keep cup to take a hot drink with you. 


Each Session will have a different theme and explore a new area or aspect of the Botanic Garden.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Purchase of a ticket online is final. Participants are required to bring a soft or hard copy of their online booking confirmation to the activity.
  • No refunds will be issued for cancellation of tickets purchased online.
  • A request for a date change can be made in writing no less than 72 hours prior to the program commencement time. The new event date must be within one month of the original booking date. Approval of a date change is at the discretion of the BGoS.
