Event description

Join us celebrating Wattle Day with a nature journaling workshop at Melton Botanic Garden. Through a combination of science, creativity and mindfulness we will explore the details of wattles along the Acacia Walk.

Nature journaling is about slowing down, observing something in nature and putting it on the page through drawing, writing, even numbers. No need to be an artist or scientist to experience the joys of nature journaling.

We will wander slowly, spending time with different wattles and capture our experiences on the page. Nature journaling awakens our senses, extends our observation skills and deepens our knowledge, Each session provides opportunities for wonder and connection to nature.

This session is suitable for complete beginners and those experienced. We start with a guided nature-based mindfulness practice, then some warm up techniques before we turn to journaling something of your choosing. Our workshop facilitator Kathleen offers tips, techniques, templates and personalised support as needed. All supplies are provided, including light refreshments. Take home the nature journal pages that you create, with some new skills to be more mindful in your everyday life.

For those new to nature sketching / journaling – come along and learn some techniques in a friendly relaxed session, with all supplies provided. No experience is necessary. Even if you think you are not artistic or creative, this session is for you and you are very welcome.

For those experienced in nature sketching / journaling – come along and join other like-minded people (nature lovers, creatives, mindfulness advocates). There will be a variety of techniques offered. BYO your favourite journal and supplies, or use those provided.

Please note that this is an outdoor session, so wear clothing and footwear suitable for being outdoors and walking on gravel, sometimes uneven paths. Keep your hands free. We have an indoor option if weather does not suit being outdoors for the duration of the session.
