Crafting With & For Nature - Bird Habitat Making Workshop
Description
Slow down, get your hands busy and connect with the living world around you in this relaxed, hands-on creative habitat-making workshop beside Darebin Creek.
Guided by Sarah from Snakebird Designs, you’ll explore simple construction techniques working with natural materials that have been diverted from green waste, to create biodegradable structures designed to support our small woodland birds.
The finished pieces will be installed as part of restoration efforts along Darebin Creek, where they’ll help us explore how creative habitat making might provide benefits for local small bird populations.
This workshop is part craft workshop, part habitat restoration, and uses creative practice to help us connect with, understand and care for local ecosystems.
Engage your senses by working with natural fibres, experiment with different textures and colours and let the rhythm of collective making draw your attention to the creek, the landscape and the creatures that call it home.
No previous weaving or craft experience is needed. Sarah will guide you through the techniques step-by-step, with plenty of room to experiment and play.
Come along to spend some time outdoors, learn from the materials around you and make something that gives back to the Darebin Creek ecosystem.
