    Event description

A Down at Dock 2 event for children over 7 years (or younger with adult assistance).

Believe it or not:  On sailing ships, children as young as seven years old were signed on as regular members of the crew! They learnt all about life at sea, including how to navigate vessels safely across the oceans.

Join us, by the 1864 clipper ship City of Adelaide, to try your hand at tall ship navigation:

    • Make a magnetic compass of your own, then use it to practice lines-of-position and dead-reckoning skills!
    • Learn about latitude and longitude - and how to find them from a noon sight.
    • Delve into the navigators' world of lighthouses, sextants, chronometers, almanacs, chip-logs and sounding lines.

    2 sessions available:  11am - 12pm and 12:45pm - 1:45pm.

Most of the activities are indoors, but we will spend a little 'navigating' time outside if weather permits, so please bring a sun hat and a drink with you.

Each ticket holder will receive a $5 discount voucher for an adult to tour the clipper (children tour free of charge). This voucher can be used on the day - before or after our event - or at any time in the future.

Come along and join the fun!
