you don't have to be Brisbane based to compete! You can compete virtually by presenting live via video link on the evening.
the event on 26 August will solely be the presentation of the policy pitches - participants are expected to come prepared with their pitches!
participants can be individuals or teams of up to 3
shortlisted pitches will have the opportunity to be published on the Young Australians in International Affairs website and be recognised on our platforms

The competition will enable participants to build professional networks and gain invaluable insights into various pathways in international affairs. By addressing the intricate geopolitical challenges surrounding Australia’s strategic position within the Indo-Pacific, this event encourages youth to engage meaningfully with contemporary political debates.
The South China Sea has long been a flashpoint for strategic rivalry, and 2024 was no exception. As tensions continue to escalate, Australia faces growing challenges to its vision for a rules-based order. In this policy pitch competition, participants will develop and present a new, revised, or improved policy that the Australian government can pursue to reduce tensions and work towards stabilising and resolving ongoing disputes in the South China Sea.
