The Australian Pasifika Educators Network (APEN) is delighted to welcome Leali’ie’e Dr Tufulasi Taleni as our special guest for Navigating Leadership as a Pasifika Educator.
This interactive online professional learning talanoa will explore leadership identity, professional growth and representation, alongside the opportunities and challenges Pasifika educators encounter when navigating educational systems. Drawing on Pacific knowledge, values and relational approaches, the session will create space for participants to reflect on their leadership practice, strengthen their professional confidence and consider how they can lead with cultural integrity while supporting Pacific learners and communities.
Meet our special guest
Leali’ie’e Dr Tufulasi Taleni is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Education at the University of Canterbury and author of Tautai – The Master Navigator. Drawing on extensive experience as a classroom teacher, Pacific education adviser, university leader and researcher, his work champions Pacific knowledge, values and relational approaches to leadership, teaching and learning.

- What time zone is being used?
The session will run from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm AEDT, which is Sydney time on Thursday 29 October 2026.
- Who can attend?
The session welcomes Pasifika educators, teachers, aspiring and established leaders, university staff, equity and student support practitioners, and anyone working alongside Pacific learners and communities.
- Do I need to be an APEN member?
No. The session is open to APEN members and non-members. Special registration discount rates are available for APEN members. There are also different rates for non-members, HDR students and educators based in the Pacific region.
- Who is eligible for complimentary registration?
Complimentary registration is available to current APEN members based in the Pacific region. Eligibility may be confirmed before the session.
- What happens if I can no longer attend?
Self-service refunds are available until 5:30 pm AEDT on Thursday 22 October 2026. After this deadline, registrations may be transferred to another participant by contacting APEN before the session.
- What if I have accessibility requirements?
Please include your accessibility requirements when registering or contact APEN at least one week before the session on info@pasifikaedcators.com.au We will make reasonable efforts to support your participation.
