    EXPERT PANEL | Q&A | NETWORKING

The UNAA Young Professionals Queensland is excited to invite you to our next event on October 25th, in partnership with engineering consultancy Aurecon.

The theme this year is "Navigating Sustainability and Greenwashing on the Climate Crisis" with an exciting panel discussion around:

    • Social, economic and environmental aspects of sustainability
    • Identifying greenwashing practices around sustainability claims
    • Advocating for climate action and sustainable practices
    • Raising awareness around the climate crisis

    Introducing our panellists:

    Ben McGarry

Ben is a Principal - Decarbonisation at Aurecon.

Recognised as one of Engineers Australia’s Most Innovative Engineers, Ben leads Aurecon's Decarbonisation Advisory team, helping clients create strategies, and identify and navigate pathways, impacts and opportunities, in our fast-changing energy and carbon landscape.

From managing the grid impacts of electrification and supercharging renewables and storage, to decarbonising emissions-intensive end users across all sectors, from envisioning a future exporting hydrogen energy carriers, to advising on technologies and transactions enabling a low carbon future.

His team draws on systems thinking to create insight with engineering and design at its core. Ben has worked in decarbonisation, energy strategy, infrastructure advisory, project engineering, product design and technology R&D roles in Australia and US, after completing a doctorate studying how digital technologies can better support innovation in engineering design.

      Emmy Tran

Emmy is a Principal – Business Insights & Strategy at Volvo Group Australia.

With 11+ years background in commercial finance and law in Brisbane and in London, Emmy uses her experience and global perspective to lead VGA’s strategy development in a time of transformation and need for decarbonisation.

Emmy has always had a passion for ESG & Sustainability related issues and therefore naturally gravitated towards this area in her career.  She is driven by the belief that sustainable practices can create a better future for both businesses and the planet, and is committed to champion positive change and accelerating efforts towards net zero.

      Rebecca Smith

Rebecca is a Senior Associate at King & Wood Mallesons.

Her practice specialises in complex class actions in both the Supreme and Federal Court jurisdictions, regulatory investigations, commissions and inquiries. She has top-tier experience in all aspects of class actions representing both commercial and government clients, and is joining the panel to talk us through climate litigation and greenwashing from a legal perspective.

As a litigator, Rebecca has worked with Aurizon Holdings Ltd, BHP Group, Telstra Corporation Ltd, Origin Energy Ltd, IOOF Holdings Ltd, United Petroleum Franchise Ltd and The Star Entertainment.

Rebecca is experienced in large-scale insolvency disputes, regulatory matters, insurance law, public liability, professional negligence and defamation claims. She is skilled in all areas of general commercial litigation, and alternative dispute resolution, having represented clients in the High Court of Australia, Federal Court of Australia, Supreme Courts of New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Northern Territory, the Courts of Appeal of Queensland and Northern Territory, as well as internationally in the Singapore International Commercial Court.
