We continue to celebrate Open Education Week with our keynote speaker, Paul Stacey.

During this one-hour online session, Paul will highlight the pedagogical approaches to AI training, delve into the current practices of employing Generative AI (GenAI) for generating Open Educational Resources (OER), and explore how Open Educational Practices (OEP) can optimise the benefits of AI in education.

Keynote speaker: Paul is an experienced open leader who works with organizations, grassroots practitioners, government officials, and executive leaders on the use of open. He brings to his engagements twenty years of open work spanning the world, drawing on experiences from initiatives in North America, Europe, Latin America, the MENA region, Africa and Asia. Paul's work covers all facets of open with a specialization in opening education. Paul works on strategic planning, funding, policy-making, implementation, community building, stewarding, and value co-creation.

At the end of 2022, after five years as Executive Director of Open Education Global, Paul transitioned to being an independent consultant for open education efforts worldwide through this paulstacey.global website. Read his “An Open Leadership Transition With Care” blog post to learn more.

In his consulting role, Paul is looking to help senior leaders in government, institutions, and cultural organizations with their open plans and strategies. Efforts around the implementation of the UNESCO Open Educational Resources (OER) Recommendation are of particular interest as are strategies that weave together all the strands of open - OER, open pedagogy, Open Access, Open Science, Open Data, ... Paul also supports open-related efforts around digital public goods, digital public infrastructure and digital commons. Session Chair: Simon Buckingham Shum is a Professor of Learning Informatics at the University of Technology Sydney, where he serves as the inaugural Director of the Connected Intelligence Centre. He brings a human-centred design approach to Educational Technology, Learning Analytics and AI in Education. He has played a strategic role in the UTS response to Generative AI and contributed to the 2023 TEQSA national report Assessment Reform for the Age of Artificial Intelligence. Prior to UTS, Simon was Assoc. Director of the Knowledge Media Institute, Open University UK, where he served on the leadership team of OpenLearn (launching its OER initiative), involving extensive engagement with other pioneering universities in the early days of OER and the Hewlett Foundation. This work included the integration of OERs with open-access learning tools (Open Sensemaking Communities).
