NAWIC Otago - Guided Tour of the Regent Theatre

Our next site visit is a guided tour of the Regent Theatre (16 The Octagon) on Wednesday 23rd August at 5pm.

The Regent Theatre is a Category 1 Historic Building. It has the second largest audience capacity of all New Zealand theatres.

Join us as Nelson Miles, Technical Manager for the Regent, takes us on a tour around the three buildings which the theatre is comprised of. As well as seeing behind the scenes in areas such as the backstage area, dressing rooms and fly tower, we will also get to watch the smoke control system in action (weather dependent).

Nelson is unable to confirm whether we will get to meet the Regent’s famous ghost but he will share some tales of what the ghost gets up to.

***Health & Safety***

There’s no need for PPE during the visit but sensible shoes and some warm layers would be advised since the Theatre gets cold when there isn’t a performance on. During the tour we will be going through different height levels in the Fly Tower to look at some of the challenges that the old tower presented that needed to be overcome. All unnecessary items including phones and handbags will need to be left safely at stage level.
