Below is some information about the project provided by Southbase Construction: 

Last year Southbase Construction completed the expansion works to the Wakatipu High School. The project increased the capacity of learning spaces by 600 students.

This month Southbase is handing over the new double court gym which will allow for the increased student body as well as secondary school competitions. 

Wakatipu High School was part of the NZ Schools PPP2 project established in 2015 and as such this project has been run under the same Private Public Partnership (PPP) procurement model between the Ministry of Education and Future Schools Partners (FSP) LP.

Southbase is managing the design consultants and ensuring the design meets the MOE Building Design Standards as well as other requirements that directly address lifecycle benefits, safety in maintenance and fit for purpose in relation to the building and grounds. Southbase is utilising BIM modelling and Drone deploy for highly coordinated construction efforts and clash detection.

Enabling works began in August of 2020 and have been handed over in 4 separable portions over the past 2 years with the final completion date at the end of January 2023.

Structural steel portal frames make up the primary structure and around 1500 cubic meters of concrete in the foundations and floor slab. Smart lighting uses daylight harvesting which measures the amount of sunlight entering the windows and shuts off the perimeter lighting for energy savings on sunny days. There are 3 full size courts facilitating Basketball, Netball, Badminton, and Volley Ball, with 2 courts that can be used simultaneously and 1 event court for use with the retractable bleacher seating. 

No PPE is required.
