The National Disability Research Partnership (NDRP) is delighted to invite you to our first quarterly Evidence to Action event, Exploring the Evidence to Enable the Elimination of Restrictive Practices in Australia.

Presented in collaboration with Inclusion Australia and People With Disability Australia.

The event will discuss important topics related to the research needed to uphold the rights and safety of people with disability, in line with the Research Agenda. It will also explore the lifelong impacts of restrictive practices, and the evidence gaps that need addressing across all sectors.

Who it’s for: This accessible online event will bring together a diverse audience, including people with disability, family members, researchers, service providers, and government representatives.

1:00pm – Welcome
1:10pm – What we know about restrictive practices, their impacts, and harm
2:00pm – Screen break
2:10pm – The research and evidence to action gaps on how to eliminate restrictive practices
2:55pm – Screen break
3:00pm – What’s next in building the evidence base for policy and practice to enable elimination of restrictive practices

Speakers: Speakers will include people with lived experience, researchers, systemic advocates, and representatives from government and regulators.

Content note: The NDRP acknowledges the sensitivity of this event’s subject matter. A Safety and Wellbeing Officer will be available during and after the event for attendees and participants who may experience distress and need further support, and details of support services will be provided to all attendees.

About Evidence to Action: The NDRP’s Evidence to Action program curates inclusive events to bring together the disability community, Disability Representative Organisations, Disabled Persons Organisations, researchers, service providers and policy makers. The events explore evidence, identify research and evidence gaps, build connections and discuss barriers to applying evidence.
