NEAR ENOUGH IS GOOD ENOUGH: Aaron Butt Art Workshop at Obsidian Bide: Art Gallery & Studio
Event description
Discover how history, photography, and paint collide in this hands-on workshop with contemporary artist Aaron Butt, presented alongside his solo exhibition Near Enough (Is Good Enough) III at Obsidian Bide: Art Gallery & Studio.
Drawing inspiration from Frank Hurley’s glass plate photographs of the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1914–1917), this workshop invites participants to experiment with pigments, textures, and abstract approaches that challenge traditional narratives.
Aaron will guide you through:
Using photographic references to inspire contemporary painting
Layering and texturing techniques using mixed media
Exploring colour distortion and metaphor in visual storytelling
Reflecting on environmental and social themes through creative practice
No prior experience required — just curiosity and a willingness to explore. All core materials are supplied, and participants will take home their own finished work.
Suitable for all ages ( but children under 12yrs old require an adult to stay with them for the workshop.) There is no charge for parents staying to assist their under 12's or carers/support workers attending with their clients.
