Neighbourhood Circle Nights: Beginner Pottery - Handforming Vessels with Maddy

This event is part of Neighbourhood Circle Nights, happening at the Immigration Museum during August and Sept 23.
Come and explore the world of pottery and hand forming!
Maddy will guide you through an introduction to pottery, supporting you to make your own piece of pottery art from air-dry clay.
You might like to make an ornamental dish, a bud vase, a little pinch pot...whatever you can think of!Â
At the end of the workshop you will walk away with new skills and a hand made object to gift to a friend or adorn your home!
All materials included in this workshop - just come and have a wonderful time!
What will we cover?
In this fun, hands-on workshop you will learn how to:
- Condition our clay
- Hand-build with air-dry clay
- Make basic pinch pots
- Smoothing and texturing clay
- Stamp, emboss, engrave into clay
- Attaching pieces of clay correctly for strength, such as handles and

Have a think about what you might like to create, and also about how to transport this home. It can be really useful to bring along an empty tupperware container and shopping bag to transport your clay work home safely.

Who will be teaching?Â
Maddy (she/her) is a crafty hobbyist based in Naarm who has a big heart for colour and expression. She enjoys working with all sorts of materials and mediums, and repurposing everyday items into expressions of art and fashion. As a musician, these wonky and not-so-wonky creations often find their way onto stages around Melbourne.
Maddy enjoys carving and printing lino cuts, paper collage, and combining the two. She also enjoys gardening, especially getting her hands dirty!
