Nekehanga - Indigo Dye Workshop
Description
Join us to make a fermented indigo vat and turn fabric into one-of-a-kind blues. In this workshop, you will make a fermented indigo vat and turn fabric into one-of-a-kind blues. You'll learn about dye plants, before preparing the dye bath ready to dip and swirl fabric as it transforms before your eyes. Playful, hands-on, and a little messy - come along to explore and experiment. Be sure to wear clothes you’re happy to get colourful.
Practical information: All ages are welcome and registration is essential. The workshops will be held outside, so please wear closed shoes and weather appropriate clothing. Bring Tupperware or a ziplock bag to transport wet fabric home. Fabric will be available on the day, or you can bring your own small item made of natural-fibres (cotton, linen, silk, wool) to use - old t-shirts and tea towels work well. For the best results, please pre-wash your fabric in hot water with soda ash or natural detergent, then rinse well.
