Description

Music, B-Movie Bizarre, Cult Classics & Neon Nostalgia. Offline.
Forget the algorithm and the monthly subscription.
Remember when a night of entertainment meant heading to the video store? Or wish you could have experienced spending twenty minutes arguing over what to watch, grabbing a few snacks and hoping the movie was as good as the cover promised?
Neon Static brings a little of that feeling back.
It's a night dedicated to B-movies, cult classics, questionable sequels and VHS-era weirdness. The films that slipped through the cracks, gathered dust on the bottom shelves and somehow became the ones you never forgot. The kind of cinema where the acting might be terrible, the plot makes absolutely no sense, the practical effects are held together by sheer determination, and the one-liners are better than anything in a big-budget blockbuster. Albeit with a sense of honesty and an earnest quality to it all.
No film studies lectures. No pressure to pretend a movie is good just because someone important says it is.
Just great company, good music and gloriously (im)perfect cinema.

THE VIDEO-STORE EXPERIENCE. 7 PM
Arrive early to hang out and make new friends while we play music to match the era. Some classics and some rather questionable hits, too! Also, remember to support the venue by grabbing a drink or a bite to eat so that we can continue to do this.
Then every screening starts with a trip down the rabbit hole.
Expect a pre-show reel of retro advertisements, forgotten trailers, strange television clips, video-store oddities and other relics from a time when entertainment came on a physical tape and rewinding was somebody else's problem.
B-MOVIES. GOOD COMPANY. NO QUIET PLEASE. 8 PM
Neon Static isn’t a serious, silent movie night. Laugh at the ridiculous bits. Call out the plot holes. Appreciate the effects. Question the decisions that brought us here.
These films are products of their time. Some jokes, attitudes and ideas land differently now. And noticing (or laughing at) that is part of the fun.
Reactions and comments that add to the night are welcome.
For a couple of hours, forget the outside world. The only thing demanding your attention is the glorious nonsense on screen.

NOVEMBER: AGAINST THE NINJA
Miami Connection (1987)
Miami has a problem. Actually, Miami has several problems, and most of them involve cocaine, leather jackets and men who never attended acting class.
As motorcycle ninjas tighten their grip on Florida's narcotics trade, viciously annihilating anyone who dares move in on their turf, multinational martial arts rock band Dragon Sound have had enough and embark on a roundhouse wreck-wave of crime-crushing justice.
When not chasing beach bunnies or performing their hit song "Against the Ninja", Mark (taekwondo master/inspirational speaker Y.K. Kim) and the boys are kicking and chopping at the drug world's smelliest underbelly.
It'll take every ounce of their blood and courage, but Dragon Sound can't stop until they've completely destroyed the dealers, the drunk bikers, the kill-crazy ninjas, the middle-aged thugs, the "stupid cocaine"... and the entire MIAMI CONNECTION!
How did a forgotten movie become a legendary cult classic? It started with a $50 gamble on eBay.
Years ago, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema programmer Zack Carlson stumbled across a mysterious, unreleased film print on eBay. He took a chance, bought it for fifty bucks, and projected it for an audience. The crowd went wild. What started as a random internet find quickly blew up into a revered, globally celebrated cult phenomenon.
