Guide: Brian Peters Senior Flood Mitigation Officer
Join Brian Peters, Senior Flood Mitigation Officer with the City of Gold Coast, for a rare behind-the-scenes look at one of the region's most important – and little-known – hydraulic structures.
The Nerrang Tidal Gates serve as a crucial control point for managing tidal flow, preventing erosion, maintaining water quality, and enabling pedestrian access between residential and university precincts. You’ll learn how the gates operate in sync with the tides and even take into account elite sports training requirements at the AIS canoeing facility.
This tour includes access to the control room and an up-close explanation of how the gates function – and if timing allows, you may even see one of the gates in action.
Please note: Access to the control room is included but access to the control equipment (up a steep ladder) is not included, for safety reasons.
