PRESENTATION LINE-UP:
PRESENTATION #1: How Long John Silver Poisoned The Ocean
By Brad Einstein
Summary: 2x National Park Service Artist-in-Residence Brad Einstein explores how the publishing of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island in 1883 inadvertently led to the creation of one of the most polluting objects on the planet—all thanks to a famous(ly messy) family of American painters who happen to be from Brad’s hometown.
Bio: Brad Einstein is a writer, comedian, two-time National Park Service Artist-In-Residence, and National Forest Service Voice of the Wilderness. He was the lead writer of The Climate Variety Show, hosted by Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Jason Sudeikis, and his work has been featured in Rolling Stone, NPR, The LA Times, The Boston Globe, Atlas Obscura, and more. He was a member of the inaugural Climate Comedy Cohort, a 2025 Yes, And Laughter Lab Fellow, and co-creator of Tree Huggers Comedy with creative partner Kyle Niemer. Past credits include: Shameless, The Onion, Billy on the Street, The Second City National Touring Company, and more.
PRESENTATION #2: Everything is Slides Now: A History of Corporate Picture Books
By Claire Einstein
Summary: “Can you throw that all into a deck for me?” Half of corporate America seems to be built on that single request, but why does this presentation format have such a stranglehold on the world’s most businessy brains? We’ll dive into the rise of the slide from W. E. B. Du Bois’s data portraits to the auto-populated template you used this morning, all while asking why so many people believe that any problem can be solved with just one more slide.
Bio: Claire Einstein is a comedian, illustrator, and creative director based in Los Angeles. She has created award-winning campaigns (and shareholder value) for major brands and organizations, including The Atlantic, Semafor, Cards Against Humanity, The Aspen Ideas and Tribeca Film Festivals, and more. Nerd Nite feels like a return home after a sketch comedy career that took her everywhere from New York Comic Con to PAX Australia. Now she makes slides.
PRESENTATION #3: Carmilla's Girls: A Legacy of Lesbian Vampires
By Sean Rourke
Summary: The Countess Carmilla Karnstein was the first woman vampire in English literature to headline her own book. She was dangerous, beautiful, powerful, and she loved women! Nerd Nite LA's resident vampire expert Sean Rourke will talk about this icon who started the lesbian vampire craze and trace her descendants all the way down to the modern night!
Bio: By night, Sean Rourke is the host of “The Vampire’s Castle,” a YouTube Channel where he creates resources for writers and filmmakers who want to tell vampire stories, and he interviews icons of the vampire genre. By day, Sean is a visualization editor in Hollywood, having worked on such titles as Avengers Endgame, Prey, and he was part of the writing team for Predator Killer of Killers. He writes a series of vampire short stories called “The Crimson Moon Society,” and he has a dog named Kaylee who is just a little too smart.
