PRESENTATION #3: 100mph Hits: The Evolution of the Hockey Mask

By Trevor Valle

Summary:
Modern hockey goalie masks are the pinnacle of safety equipment – Kevlar, carbon fiber, and inertial dampening gels. Full cages and neck protectors. Sloped to provide maximum deflection of frozen 1" thick rubber missiles. However, hockey enthusiast and Nerd Nite LA superstar Trevor Valle is going to go all the way back to 1959 (and beyond) with our audience, making sure that we see that things were very different back then when safety wasn't always guaranteed.

Bio: From LA to Washington D.C., Trevor Valle has presented at so many Nerd Nites that we've lost count. A drone pilot, a mitigation paleontologist, a certified spirits educator, and a maniac that drove over 10,000 miles in 37 days, Trevor is full of weird experiences and wild information. What a lot of people don't know is that he is a Canadian dual-citizen, diehard Toronto Maple Leafs fan (and casual Ducks fan when the Leafs aren't in town), and played as a hockey goalie for the better part of 20 years. He's also missing a tooth due to improper goalie mask practices.
