    Nerd Nite is an evening of entertaining and educational presentations. Speakers present for 15 minutes, followed by a brief Q&A with the audience.

    PRESENTATION #1:
    “How LEGO helps us understand cities” by Pablo Dueñas


    Pablo is a passionate advocate for urbanism, design and community engagement, leveraging innovative tools like LEGO to enhance understanding of city planning. With a strong background in urban studies, he seeks to inspire collaboration and creativity in urban design. His ideas are known for being engaging and having a hands-on approach, encouraging audiences to envision sustainable urban futures. Outside of work, Pablo enjoys exploring cities, discovering new architectural trends... and playing with bricks.

    PRESENTATION #2:
    “Florida & Filipino History: Notes on the February Revolution” by Sabrina Javellana


    Sabrina Javellana is a proud lifelong Floridian and made history in 2018 as one of the youngest ever to be elected in the Sunshine State. Serving as Vice Mayor of Hallandale Beach at the age of 21 and as a student at Florida International University in Miami. Sabrina passed policies on racial, economic, environmental and gender justice and fought against fascism in the state legislature. Sabrina is a proud Pinay (or Filipina whichever), co-founder of the Reproductive Freedom Collective of Broward County, and dreams endlessly of a better future for Florida that is built together in coalitions.

    PRESENTATION #3:
    “Wow Without the Cow - How Science is Making Dairy With Yeast and Volcanoes” by Janay Laing


    Janay Laing is a plant-based chef and author who teaches about animal-free innovation, the growing field of making meat, dairy and eggs with plants or biotechnology instead of animals. She also teaches cooking classes at local libraries and is the author of "Making Plants Delicious: An Easy Guide to Vegan Flavor."
