Nerikomi Workshop
Event description
Although the word nerikomi comes from Japan, where the technique was refined and popularised in the late 20th century, its roots reach back much further. Marbled clay traditions can be traced through China’s gi ware of the Song dynasty, England’s agateware, and even earlier experiments with marbleised effects in Rome and Egypt. In this playful one-off Saturday night workshop, we will explore the contemporary Japanese approach to nerikomi, layering two contrasting clays to form striking patterns, each piece entirely unique.
You will make two pieces that will be fired and glazed for you to collect 4-5 weeks after the workshop.
Refreshments provided and materials included.
This workshop is for people 16+ (alcohol will be present at the workshop. All minors must be accompanied by a paying adult)
