About the Presenter: James - Bound by Rope

James is a passionate Shibari/kinbaku practitioner and an experienced remedial massage and manual therapist. In 2018, he opened his first clinic specializing in musculoskeletal issues and injuries, applying his extensive knowledge of anatomy to help his clients recover and maintain physical health.
Starting his Shibari journey in early 2019, James began learning in the style of Kanna-ryu, attending weekly classes and consistently honing his craft ever since. With a strong interest in semenawa, James’s style of rope is playful yet sensually sadistic, connecting his love for rope with his deep understanding of human anatomy. For James, tying sustainably means being able to play longer and more safely in rope.
James excels at creating sustainably sadistic ties, working with a wide range of regular rope partners who have different bodies, levels of mobility, or previous injuries. He utilizes his therapeutic expertise to adapt his tying to accommodate various mobility issues and physical limitations. While there is always a degree of risk in what we do, James believes that all rope is inherently dangerous, and it’s crucial to take every opportunity to learn and mitigate these risks to protect the people in our ropes.

In this workshop, James will delve into nerve safety, body mechanics, and the positions of ties, offering practical strategies for adapting to nerve and mobility issues. The class will cover essential safety aspects and first aid approaches for nerve injuries, combining theory with hands-on practice. Whether you’re an advanced rigger or a newcomer, James’s unique perspective will provide valuable insights into safer and more sustainable rope practices.
