Nest Boxes - Why, What & Where?
Event description
Loss of habitat has had a dramatic impact on many hollow dependent, native birds and animals. Old growth trees containing natural hollows are now rare in our environment. While a nesting box is not a true replacement for natural hollows, for impoverished habitats building your own wildlife hollow or purchasing a commercially available nest box can help provide much-needed nesting and roosting habitat.
Different species have very different habitat needs. Appropriate nest box design and location is vital for a successful outcome for wildlife. Â
This free event is the first in a series of 3 Nest Box events hosted by Three Flats Landcare Group.
Local nest box guru, Neil Padbury, will explain why native species need nest boxes, what they require and where to locate the boxes.Â
Follow up events will include:
- Nest Box construction and alternatives to making your own nest boxes.
- How to install next boxes.
Meet at the BBQ shelter and bring a chair.Â
Morning tea provided.
