Event description

WHO CARES? Conversations - Wednesday 11 May 2022

We are delighted to be hosting our inaugural “WHO CARES? Conversations" at Eatons Hill Hotel.

This opportunity to hear from a diverse mix of people; stories from real people about how the impact of caring affected their lives, and how you can help support unpaid carers in our community.  It is also an opportunity to meet and mingle with local business owners, community members and carers as well as our special guests.

Funds raised at this event will support carers to attend wellness programs with our expert team at The Carers Foundation Australia.

Conversations with Geraldine (Geri):

Geri grew up with a mum that had health issues.  Rollback to the late 50’s and 60’s, there wasn’t a name for it at the time, but Geri was a young carer for her mum.  But then, her mum suddenly passed away when Geri was only 13 years old.  No one talked about the whys back then, or asked  "how are you going?"  It was just swept under the carpet – even her local school was told it was “business as usual”.

Fast forward a few years to now, Geri has had a stellar career, produced three beautiful children, and grandchildren.  She was ready to retire at 65. But, on a chance meeting four years ago, she went to a ladies lunch with well-known mentor Tracey Mathers.  Inspiration struck and the rest is history! She hasn’t looked back.  Geri established her home beauty therapy business, has attended several business networking events and found some new acquaintances that are now firm friends.

As they say, once you meet Geri, she is a friend for life!

Most recently, Geri celebrated her 70th birthday by playing a drum solo – yes that is right, an accomplished drum player!
