Description

Neural Natak is a live speculative-fiction performance by Mumbai artist Spryk that imagines neural networks as practitioners of technomagic: an ancient-future craft where technology and illusion merge. It premiered at the Bangalore International Centre Auditorium in November 2025.

The show fuses cutting-edge Gen-AI visuals and electronic music with the spirit of Indian street magic and ritual theatre, building a mixed-media performance that asks how an archival intelligence might remember these rarely documented yet richly layered subcultures of India's past.

At its centre is a tension between memory and data. Faces, lives, personalities and memories, each of them unique, are so often flattened by machines into just another data point in an archive. A neural network can scan and index every image, video and text we have ever made, yet it cannot compute the meaning, the stories, or the shared emotion that actually live inside those memories. Neural Natak sits in that gap, weaving ritual, memory and technology together to reveal the invisible work behind wonder.

The Five Acts

01

Pact of the Eyes

An opening into technomagic, where computation meets ancient enchantment and the pact between watcher and watched is struck.

02

A Voice Awakens

A machine begins to learn, observing human magic for the very first time.

03

Through the Eyes of the Machine

The intelligence discovers that wonder lives in the gaps and in the waiting, not in technique.

04

Fracture

An existential crisis: complete knowledge, and still no feeling.

05

The Companion

The machine accepts its role as a memory-keeper, and asks whether we will even notice the dissolving line between authentic feeling and algorithmic presence.

The work extends themes Spryk first explored on his 2024 EP Afterglow, continuing a long inquiry into what artificial intelligence can and cannot grasp about lived human experience. "What makes human creativity unique is not just knowledge but lived experiences," says Tejas Nair, who performs as Spryk. "The emotional depth we feel and create just can't be felt by a machine."

The score pairs electronic production with more traditional musical structures to build a grand soundstage, threaded with folk-percussion-inspired rhythms and razor-sharp textures. Each of the five acts was scored individually, mirroring the segmented flow of a theatrical play or a classical kacheri, tracing a simple melody as it grows into something far more complex.

Join us for a special one-off screening of Neural Natak in the TrustFM studio space and post screening will be able to chat directly with the artist to examine the growing need for more in-depth discussions that deal directly with data, memory and technology and the growing abstractness of their interconnected relationship to our daily lives.
