This 90-minute webinar will offer practical information to help build your confidence in the area of neurodiveristy. This includes students who have been (or are suspected to have) ADHD, autism, developmental language disorder, anxiety, and other forms of neurodiversity.

When you select your ticket type, select which level (or levels) you would like to attend. You are welcome to attend one or more sessions.

Introductory - for those who are new to topic
Intermediate - for those who have some experience, but would like to go deeper
Advanced - for those who are familiar with sensory differences, common communication challenges, and social challenges. This level is also ideal for those of you who identify as neurodivergent yourself.

We will not be covering echolalia and gestalt language processing - for that topic, please sign up for the Autism and Language Development course

There will be time for question and answers throughout the session. We’ll add additional information about this course once the Ministry of Education opens the application process.

Learning Objectives

be able to describe the double empathy problem
list at least 4 possible sources of sensory challenges in your school environment
describe 3 different developmental stages of social motivation
list 4 different 'roles' for a teacher aide to support executive functioning
take a lesson or school tasks and break it down into subtasks and then apply the I do/ you do / we do approach (gradual release of responsibility) to each subtask

In the intermediate and advanced options we will briefly cover the above and then go deeper into

motivational differences between students with ADHD an neurotypical students
how to partially separate out the language and/or social skills from the academic / content learning
emotional experiences of being neurodivergent in school

We'll invoice the Ministry of Education directly for the course after you attend. You will need to apply for travel, release time, etc directly from the Ministry of Education. Presenter Bio

Shannon Hennig is a registered speech-language therapist who specialises in neurodiversity, inclusive education practice, assistive technology, and communication challenges. She has wealth of knowledge around how to support young people with language and communication needs. She previously has worked as a teaching aide herself and has 20 years of experience working in classrooms in both primary and secondary. She is known for providing informative PLD content that emphasises practical strategies that can immediately be put into practice.
