Event Description

Once there was, and once there wasn't, a terrible haunted wood deep in a place outside time. Old wives whisper that all lost things fall into those woods. Ancient treasures, forbidden secrets, and lost loved ones. If you wander off the path, or lose your way seeking someone, you might just find yourself there - in the Neverwood.

In the dark depths of those woods, all faces are shadowed. None can tell friend from foe. You can't even remember the face of your own mother. Did you have a mother? Or was that just a dream? You find you cannot recall. The fog is so thick around you, and no sunlight reaches through the trees…

Welcome to Neverwood, hosted by Brisbane Megagames! Neverwood is a rules-light megagame of Social Deduction, Storytelling and Exploration. 50 players interact in an all-day game event, all on secret teams with their own agendas. You'll need to explore the forest, uncover mysteries, make alliances, and balance your public and secret goals to find what you seek - or become lost yourself. If you enjoy telling stories, solving mysteries, and working together with unknown allies and potential enemies, then come along to this event! No prior megagame experience is required—new players are welcome. You can find more information about the game (and megagames) in general itself here.

Tickets

General Admission: $49.90 AUD per person

Lunch (Optional): $20.00 AUD

Brisbane Megagames is not registered for GST.

When you buy a ticket, you’ll be selecting what team you want to play for, but only as those teams remain available! You’ll also be asked some questions to help us run the event.

If you are purchasing multiple tickets, have the contact information for your teammates on hand (name, email address, phone number). Please do not purchase tickets if you do not have a confirmed attendee for them.

You can also find our ticketing policy here. The key points are:

Player Age: Participants must be 18 years of age or older.

Contact: Provide valid email addresses for yourself and anyone you sign up. Email is our preferred method of communication.

Unable to Attend: Notify us as soon as possible if you cannot attend.

Transferring Tickets: Notify us as soon as possible with the details of the person receiving your ticket.

Refunds: If you purchased a ticket and would like to seek a refund, please email us at brisbanemegagames@gmail.com. We offer refunds up to 14 days prior to the event. After that time, and up to 48 hours prior to the event, we will offer a refund if we are able to otherwise re-sell your ticket to another player.

We are unfortunately unable to offer refunds in the last 48 hours prior to the event, even if we manage to find someone to take your place in the game.

Refunds are not inclusive of several nominal fees charged during the admin of ticketing, meaning the refunded price may be slightly less than what you originally paid.

Code Of Conduct: By purchasing a ticket and attending the event, you are agreeing to abide by our Code of Conduct.

About the event

The Venue:

This event is held at Northgate Hall (71 Scott Street, Northgate Qld 4013) on the 14th of November, 2026. We will start at 9:00am, and continue until our estimated finish time of 5:00 pm (AEST).

Parking is limited to local street parking. The venue is disability accessible, although we recommend letting us know if you have any concerns or requirements regarding the venue. For full information, you can see a virtual tour and accessibility information on the brisbane council website here.

The Virginia Train Station is 10 minutes walk away from Northgate hall. The 310 and 306 bus routes (both coming from the city) have stops that are also nearby.

What to bring:

  • Yourself!

  • A water bottle

  • Any food or drinks (see below)

  • Comfortable clothes. Costumes are encouraged, but not mandatory.

All needed game materials will be provided.

Food and Drinks:

If you choose to buy lunch with your ticket, we'll serve you lunch on the day.

  • Lunch: Traditional beef and red wine lasagne with a zesty rocket salad and garlic bread.

  • Vegan and gluten-free option: Lentil, mushroom and red wine lasagne with zesty rocket salad and gluten-free garlic bread.

We highly recommend you either choose this option or bring a packed lunch. The venue doesn't have restaurants nearby, so ducking out to order lunch on the day would mean missing out on some of the game.

The venue includes:

  • Kitchen access

  • Fridge space (limited availability)

  • Hot water access

Please note, we do not recommend relying on fridge space. We also recommend bringing a water bottle. Drinking water is available on site via a sink (unfiltered)

After the Game:

Once the game has finished, and we have gone through the debrief, we plan to go to the nearby (10 min walk) FickBrewing Pub for food, drinks and a post-game crash. Feel free to join us and regale us with stories of your time in Neverwood.

Safety and inclusion:

We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all players. Our Code of Conduct outlines our expectations for volunteer and participant behaviour and the consequences for unacceptable behaviour. By attending our events, you agree to abide by this Code of Conduct.

As an overview, we strive to uphold the following principles at our events:

Respect and Inclusivity: Treat all participants with respect, kindness, and consideration. We welcome individuals of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities.

Safety and Comfort: Ensure the safety and comfort of all participants. Any form of harassment, discrimination, or violence will not be tolerated.

Fair Play: Engage in fair play and uphold the integrity of the game. Cheating, exploitation of game mechanics, or disruptive behaviour undermines the experience for everyone.

Minimum Player Count
We need at least 25 players for it to make sense to run the event. If we end up with less and it's a couple of weeks out, we'll cancel the event and refund all tickets.

Who tells the story of the Neverwood?

We are Brisbane Megagames, a semi-organised collective of people who love creating epic experiences through the medium of in-person games. Before the great plague of 2020, we ran several MegaGames in Brisbane, including several runs of the iconic Watch the Skies and God Emperor. Since then, we have organised somewhat, and plan on running more megagames! Neverwood is our most recently designed megagame, and we look forward to running it for you!

We are a not-for-profit organisation. Everybody who is running these megagames is volunteering their time, on the day and before, with many hours of preparation. All ticket proceeds for Neverwood go towards covering the cost of the event and towards organisation administrative costs. Please consider making an extra donation by buying a team member a drink at the pub afterwards.

Secret Teams

Each player will be on one of 5 secret teams. You'll sign up in a public team, but you'll only get your secret team on the day. Be aware that you and the rest of your public team won't be all on the same secret team! You won't be directly opposed to each other, but you will have different goals that may put you in conflict. Be prepared to experience bluffing, lying, sabotage and misdirection.

FAQs

  • Is it ok if I play in both events?

Yes! Like Blood on the Clocktower and other social deduction games, Neverwood is designed to be replayable. Each run, the player roles will be shuffled around, so you won't know which players are on each secret team. You don't have to worry about spoilers if you're playing in the previous run of Neverwood - each game will be a very different experience.

  • What's a Megagame?

Megagames blend together elements of RPGs, Board Games and Live-Action Role-Playing (LARP). You and a large group of players will gather together in a full-day event where your actions will shape an emergent story.

Like a board game, there are some rules to follow, tokens to trade and cards to manage - but like an RPG, there are ways to go outside those rules and be creative. You'll have goals to aim for, but there's no one winner or loser. Making a great story is more important.

Here's some neat videos as examples of a Megagame in action.

  • Do I need experience?

No. Rules are taught on the day.

  • Do I need a team of friends?

No! While many people sign up with their friends, feel free to sign up as a solo player!

  • Is there player elimination?

No. All players remain active until the end.

  • How long is the event?

A full day, which is approximately 8 hours of gameplay, plus time for breaks.

  • What's the estimated timeline?

The game will go from 9am to 5pm, with time for lunch and breaks. This is the estimated timeline:

    • 9:00 - 9:30: Player entry and reception.

    • 9:30 - 10:00: Introduction and guided Turn 1.

    • 10:00 - 10:30: Turn 2.

    • 1:00 - 1:30: Turn 7.

    • 4:00 - 4:30:  Turn 13 (The Finale).

    • 4:30 - 5:00: Debrief and epilogue.

    • After 5:00: We all pack up and head to the pub to celebrate!

Please be aware that times may shift based on the events of the day.

  • What if I arrive late?

Late arrivals may miss key briefing information and may have reduced roles, so punctuality is strongly recommended.

  • What happens after I buy a ticket?

Before the event, you'll recieve an email with:

    • A How To Play guide for the game

    • Your public team brief, with more information on your public team's goals

    • A summary of which secret teams and characters will be in the game

We encourage you to read them before the game. The game will have a guided start to help you understand the rules at the start of the day.

  • Is the venue accessible?

The venue includes accessible toilet facilities and an independantly accessible entrance with a ramp. For more information and a virtual tour of the venue, see the brisbane council website here. Note that the stage area will not be used in the course of the game. Please ask us if you have any concerns or accessibility needs.
