Try some new ways of thinking about poetry as having possibilities that aren’t bound by notions of description, self-expression or personal emotion.

How many different meanings can fit into one word?

How well can a word describe an entire absence?

What are the differences between absences and erasures?

Do you need to talk about yourself to have a distinctive voice?

This workshop aims to help poets explore different ways of speaking using an emphasis on form to get to the core of meaning. Useful starting points will include the Imagists, Dadaists and Vorticists and the works of B.S. Johnson, but where it will end is anyone’s guess . . .

Bring some poetry, preferably your own, your preferred writing media and an open mind.
