    Event description

    1. Seminar Aim

This seminar, supported by RMIT’s Information in Society Enabling Impact Platform, aims to bring experts from academia and industry together to showcase the research progress and discuss the existing challenges and opportunities in the fields of geodesy, climate monitoring, weather forecasting, and ecological modeling. It is hoped that the seminar could act as a catalyst in supporting interdisciplinary engagement and be an excellent opportunity to foster knowledge exchange, discussion of hotspots/future trends, and the establishment of a solid collaborative research network. The 3-hour seminar will be featured with plenary/keynote speeches by renowned experts, oral presentations by researchers from RMIT and the Bureau of Meteorology, and panel discussions. Looking forward to your participations!

    2. Brief introduction of the keynote speakers

Anthony Rea: Anthony Rea served as the Director of Infrastructure Department at the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) from Nov 2019 to Sep 2023. As a recognized leader in Earth observations activities, he brings decades of experience in observations and data and in fostering collaboration at the international and national level to WMO. Dr. Rea has made significant contributions to WMO activities and multilateral initiatives over the past 2 decades. He was instrumental in setting up the Asia-Pacific Regional ATOVS Retransmission Service (RARS), a precursor to the current Direct Broadcast Network (DBnet). He also played a leading role in the establishment of the Asia Oceania Meteorological Satellite Conferences and the Global Data Exchange for Numerical Weather Prediction (GODEX-NWP) mechanism.

Yuriy Kuleshov: Yuriy Kuleshov, Science Leader for Climate Risk and Early Warning Systems (CREWS) at the Bureau of Meteorology, is a world leading expert in satellite remote sensing and climatology, and his contribution to excellence in geoscience is internationally recognised. Professor Kuleshov has been instrumental in implementing numerous projects within the CREWS International Initiative and the International Climate Change Adaptation Initiative (ICCAI), facilitating risk-based decision-making for climate change adaptation. Results of Professor Kuleshov's research have been published in more than 100 books, book chapters and peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals and presented in more than 200 conference papers. Two Australian Standards, “Lightning Protection” and “Wind Actions”, have been prepared with significant input based on his research.
