Lana Rothnie is a vocalist who uses synthesisers and drum machines to evoke a unique soundscape, inspired by stories of struggle and abstraction. The combination of vocal jazz training at WAAPA and love for dance music has driven Lana to play in venues around Perth and has toured over east supporting various artists in Canberra, Sydney and frequently in Melbourne. Lana has supported touring acts such as Laurel Halo, Chela and NO ZU.
Jessie L. Warren has done a lot of things, musically speaking. From her days authoring folk songs fresh out of high school, culminating in her 2010 LP under the “Carry Nation” pseudonym, through her acclaimed film score work, and into membership in bands as diverse as Hachiku, half/cut, and Lisa Mitchell, the scope of Jessie’s practice requires a broad brush to put to page.
At long last though, there’s an album being released under her own name, titled Ūhta - an old, disused word, representing the hour before dawn. That palpable sense of anticipation carries through to the songcraft, playing with form and dynamics, careening in unexpected directions. Though bold to imply that there could be a true representation of all Jessie’s manifold interests - yes, even her passion for marine biology - this long-gestating collection of songs manages it, transporting the listener for an all-too-brief time into her vast and unexpected inner monologue.
New Nausea is an Alt-Folk/Rock band comprising of members of Methyl Ethel, Calmly (FKA Childsaint) and Jacob Diamond. Originating as the solo project of Albert Pritchard the line-up was expanded in 2018 to increase the impact of the personal and affecting songs. The band alternates between the more traditional, subdued and ornate territory occupied by singer-songwriters such as Elliot Smith, Nick Drake and Angel Olsen, and the discordant and chaotic sounds of bands such as The Drones and Parquet Courts.
