New North Workshop 4: Microtonal Practice with Jonathan Heilbron
Event description
New North is very proud to present a very special guest, Jonathan Heilbron, for our next workshop.
Jonathan is a Narrm-raised double bassist, keyboardist, and composer based in Berlin, Germany. Jonathan works at the forefront of new repertoire, has a singular compositional practice across a myriad of genres, and has explored the double bass to great depths.
Jonathan own words about this workshop:
"The world of microtonality and alternate tuning systems has played an increasingly important role in my life as a musician working across several interrelated fields. In this workshop, I will discuss my relationship with microtonal music, and explore some of the ways in which my work in this field manifests in the music I write, perform, and research. I will also play some recent music for multiple chord organs."
Jonathan will talk about:
~ his extensive practice with tunings;
~ the process of working with Rebecca Lane and Cat Lamb to realise the long-duration microtonal work 'Muto Infinitas';
~ the album 'Puma Court' for two double basses and two hardanger fiddles;
~ and the ongoing collaboration with guitarist Fredrik Rasten.
Venue: Liliy Street Studios [8 Lily Street, Coburg North 3058]
