    New Voices 2024: Coaching Session 1

    Launching yourself into the public speaking world is not easy. Where do you start? What do you speak about? Who will care? And where can get start getting experience? How can get start working with event promoters?

    This October Business Month in Darwin, we'll be showcasing twelve new voices at a Gala Keynote Evening at Darwin Innovation Hub. It will be a night of inspiration, learning and discovery as the Territory hears from diverse voices that have never had the chance to step forward before.

    This is the first of four monthly coaching sessions for those who are looking to take part in the gala event in October. This is an important part of the process, as only those who have participated in the free coaching sessions will be asked to participate in the gala event and be in the competition to win $2000 of paid speaker bookings in 2025.

    This first coaching session will cover:

      1. Introduction to TED-style Talks
        • Overview of TED and TEDx
        • Characteristics of a TED-style talk
        • Some great examples of TED talks
      2. Finding Your Unique Idea
        • Identifying a core message or idea worth spreading
        • Techniques for brainstorming and refining ideas
      3. Structuring Your Talk
        • Crafting a compelling narrative arc
        • The importance of a strong opening and closing
        • Tips on organising content logically and engagingly
      4. Interactive Exercise
        • Brainstorm and outline your talk topics
        • Group discussions and feedback

    For those unable to make this first session in person, a Zoom link will be provided for the workshop as well.

    New Voices is open to all ages over 18 years old, all backgrounds, genders, orientations and topics, however participation in the gala event is subject to attendance at training and practice sessions and the final call of the trainer and event organisers.
