Stivers School for the Arts Choirs
Stivers School for the Arts Choirs (Paula Powell, director; Jeff Powell accompanist) have displayed choral excellence by consistently earning superior ratings at Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) adjudicated events at the district and state level since 2016. The choirs have been selected to perform at the OCDA summer conference in 2020 (canceled due to COVID-19) and in 2022. Stivers Choirs have performed at the Schuster Performing Arts Center with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra; on stage at the Victoria Theater with adult contemporary musician, Jim Brickman; and with community and collegiate groups such as The Bach Society of Dayton, MUSICA!, The University of Dayton and Wright State University. In March of 2023, the Stivers School for the Arts Chamber Choir and Chorale traveled to New York City for a residency with Dr. Derrick Fox and a concert at Carnegie Hall. Students from the Stivers School for the Arts Choirs have consistently received recognition and scholarships for excellence in vocal music from the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance High School Vocal Competition. Stivers School for the Arts is a school of the Dayton Public Schools and has won the US News and World Report Silver Medal for excellence in public schools.

Paula Dunn Powell is the Director of Choirs at Stivers School for the Arts, conducting six choirs and mentoring voice faculty and pianists. Her choirs consistently earn superior ratings at OMEA events, with students regularly selected for All-State and All-National Choirs. Under her direction, Stivers Choirs have collaborated with numerous community and university ensembles, including performances at the 2022 OCDA summer conference and Carnegie Hall. An active performer herself, Ms. Powell is a member of the Dayton Opera Chorus and has performed with the Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra. She is passionate about fostering a love of the arts and nurturing individual talent in her students.

Jeffrey Powell is the Director of the Piano Magnet at Stivers School for the Arts and a renowned collaborative pianist, vocal coach, and conductor. He serves as the Music Director for Muse Machine and has been the Chorusmaster for the Dayton Opera since 1991, also serving as Music Director for their apprentice program and main stage productions. His prior experience includes teaching at Wright State, Wilberforce, and Central State Universities, as well as serving as Assistant Conductor for The Lyric Opera of Kansas City and Kansas City Symphony. He also held positions with The San Francisco Opera and Western Opera Theater.

New World Singers of Columbus Children’s Choir
Praised as “rare, radiant, and beautiful” by composer Nick Page and led by artistic director Artistic Director Jeanne Wohlgamuth, the New World Singers of Columbus Children’s Choir are no strangers to the public arena. They hold numerous competition titles, including Grand Prizes at the Youth International Choral Competition (2023, 2024) and Rimini International Choral Festival (2023, 2024), top honors in The American Prize (2010, 2019, 2021), and a Diamond Prize at the Royale Music Competition (2023). They have captivated audiences internationally in Austria, Germany, Spain, France, and Hungary, sharing stages appeared with the Vienna Boys’ Choir and headlined lining the Granada International Music and Dance Festival. Closer to home, the New World Singers have appeared with BalletMet, Opera Columbus, Harmony Project, Worthington Chamber Orchestra, the Columbus Symphony, and at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Breakfast.

Jeanne Wohlgamuth, Artistic Director Throughout her four-decade-long career and thirteen years as artistic director of Columbus Children’s Choir, Jeanne Wohlgamuth has exhibited unwavering dedication to music education. She has been recognized for her talents and contributions through countless honors, including the Professor Veneta Vicheva International Conductor’s Mastery Award (2021), Best Conductor from the Rimini International Choral Competition (2021), Outstanding Music Educator Award from the Royale Music Competition (2023), and National Teacher of the Year award by the American Kodály Educators Association (2020). Jeanne is a recipient of the distinguished Golden Shamrock Award for Educational Excellence from Dublin City Schools and the Community Champion Award, which led to her induction into the Dublin Jerome High School Hall of Fame in 2021. Jeanne currently serves as President of the Ohio Choral Directors Association.

Chad Baker currently serves as the Director of Worship & Music at Christ Lutheran Church in Bexley, Ohio. As a faculty member of the Capital University Conservatory of Music his assignments have included teaching organ and class keyboard as well as serving as an accompanist in the vocal area and assisting with weekly Chapel services as University Organist. In addition he also teaches in the Sacred Music program at Trinity Lutheran Seminary. Baker is a 2004 cum laude graduate of Capital University with a bachelor of music degree in keyboard pedagogy with an emphasis in church music. Chad accompanies CCC’s New World Singers.
