Hark, goodly folk of Newcastle! Prepare thy garb of yore and journey forth to Bernie's Bar for a day of merriment and revelry at the City Renaissance Faire! 

This wondrous event beckons thee to don medieval attire, peruse market stalls laden with treasures, and bear witness to live demonstrations of wool spinning, leatherworking, sword fighting and more! All ages are welcome to partake in the daytime festivities, where laughter and joy shall abound.

As the sun fades beyond the horizon, the evening unfolds into an exclusive 18+ affair of feasting, dancing, and a grand medieval spoken word battle. Delight in a buffet of time-honoured delicacies, sway to live medieval melodies, and test thy wit in a battle of words crafted in ye olde language. The night is alive with mirth and revelry, promising an experience like no other.

Tickets aplenty await thee, with daytime slots granting access to market marvels, and swordplay showcases, while evening tickets promise a banquet fit for a king, lively dances, and the chance to engage in verbal jousting of a most archaic nature. Join us for a day and night to remember, where all are encouraged to embrace the spirit of the medieval age with zeal and merrymaking aplenty!

What is the City Ren Faire?

The City Renaissance Faire is a one day event held at Bernie’s Bar in Newcastle West.

The day is a chance for folk to dress up medieval styles and have fun, shop at market stalls and see live demonstrations, ranging from wool spinning to sword fighting. all ages welcome.

The nighttime is an 18+ only evening. It will include a feast, dancing, and a medieval spoken word battle.

As this event is held in the city, it will not include activities that need large space such as jousting or archery.

How do tickets work?

You have the option of buying daytime tickets and/or evening tickets.

Daytime tickets are timed. You can purchase entry from 11am-1pm, and/or 1pm-3pm and/or 3pm-5pm. You purchase access to the fair during the hours on your ticket only. 

Evening tickets are available from 7pm to close. You must be over 18 to attend our evening session. ID will be required.

What happens if I miss my time slot?

If you miss your time allocation, we do not offer refunds or exchange. Please ensure you arrive in time to enjoy the festivities in the timeslot you have purchased access for.

Are Minors welcome?

Minors are welcome during the day. All minors must be accompanied by a guardian.

What does the event cost?

Daytime Session: $20 adult/ $15 concession/ $10 minor/ U5 Free

Evening Session: $85 adult/ $75 concession

Can I purchase multiple daytime tickets?

You can purchase tickets to multiple times if you wish. If you have purchased tickets to multiple time slots, you are still required to take part in the farewell procession (or leave the venue between session times), and re-enter for the new time slot.

What does the Daytime ticket include?

Your daytime, two hour time slot ticket will include:

  • Market stalls and browsing
  • Sword fighting demonstrations
  • Additional demonstrations e.g. leather working, wool spinning etc.
  • Photobooths
  • Best dressed competition
  • Farewell procession and group photo

What does an evening ticket include?

Your evening ticket will include:

  • Buffet feast of time period appropriate deliciousness
  • Live medieval music
  • A medieval dance demonstration and mini group dancing workshop
  • Photobooth
  • Roving performers
  • Best dressed competition
  • The chance to compete/watch a ‘spoken word battle’. Insult your opponents only using ye olde language (Shakespearean insults or earlier accepted).

What should I wear to attend?

Anything vaguely medieval, renaissance or similar!

We’d rather people to have fun, and take part in the event with enthusiasm, than worrying about ensuring that their outfit is exactly specific time period (unless your into this, which by all means, go ahead!)

Want to dress as a faery? get your wings on!

Want to carry a sword while wearing cloak? that’s A great option (as long as its purely decorative sword).

Is the venue wheelchair accessible

Yes! Our venue is wheelchair friendly but do keep in mind that there will be large crowds throughout the day. We will do our best to ensure folk make space and not infringe on other peoples ability to move around the venue.
