Event description

The Walking Club of Victoria invites you to join them on their Newport to Williamstown with a Lake and Wetlands In Between! Walk. Grade 3 (Medium). This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria.

Join the Walking Club of Victoria (WCV) for a wonderful walk where we visit Newport Lakes, which has been developed to encourage birdlife to the area, and has succeeded in doing just that. We then proceed to Williamstown via a walking track following the coast passing through Paisley Challis Wetlands, Jawbone Flora & Fauna Reserve, with a bit of beach along the way to break things up. You can be assured of plenty of birdlife on this walk!

DISTANCE:  Approximately 12km end to end.

WHO IS THIS WALK FOR? This walk would be suitable for beginners, and walkers wanting to enjoy a pleasant walk.

CHILDREN AND PETS:  This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home.  Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.

AWT GRADE: 3 (Medium)
- Expect mostly flat terrain on track, with some beach and a few steps here and there. Loose/soft sand may require a little more effort. AWT Grade information.

PACE: A reasonably steady pace, mindful of keeping the group together.

TOTAL ASCENT: Newport Lakes has a couple of slight easy ascents.

WALK DESCRIPTION: Newport Lakes was reclaimed after being used as a quarry for a long time then revegetated, terraced to attracted birdlife and other sections set aside for passive leisure activities. The coastal part of the walk follows well maintained walking tracks through coastal wetlands and beach scenery, finishing at Williamstown.
