Description
St Joseph’s College presents Newsies is a high-energy stage musical set in 1899 New York City, based on the true Newsboys’ Strike.
It follows Jack Kelly, a determined newsboy who rallies fellow young workers to stand up against powerful newspaper publishers who exploit them. Facing unfair price increases, the newsies organise a strike to fight for justice and better conditions.
The musical explores themes of social injustice, youth empowerment, and standing up to authority, all set to a vibrant score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman. It combines new songs with well-known numbers from the original film, creating an inspiring story about courage and collective action.
