Join Rita Lindsay and learn the art of Ngarrindjeri Basket Weaving, a traditional cultural practice that has been passed down since time immemorial.

Rita Lindsay is a proud Ngarrindjeri woman who shares cultural knowledge through song, dance and art. Rita has been performing and teaching Ngarrindjeri cultural songs, dances and art for over fifteen years. Rita has family connections to the Peramangk, Nganawara/Kaurna, Ngangaruku, Walkondi-woni, Maraura, Tatiara, Ngarkat, Painbali, Portaruwutj, Latji Latji, Bangarrla and Narungga.

Rita grew up in the Riverland and the Coorong. She continues living on the Coorong and is strongly invested in ensuring Ngarrindjeri culture is kept alive and passed down through the generations. Rita is a Ngarrindjeri Language Instructor, visual and performing artist, singer/songwriter, guitarist, basket weaver, feather flower maker, woodcarver and possum skin cloak maker. Rita leads the Rritjarukar (Willy Wagtails) dance group and conducts cultural workshops with community and schools. The Rritjarukar (Willy Wagtails) performed the official Welcome to Country for the Storm Boy Cast and Crew on location at Godfreys Landing in the Coorong National Park.

Through this Ngarrindjeri Basket Weaving Workshop, you will have the opportunity to experience Ngarrindjeri culture, learn an ancient stitch and create your own woven piece.
