Event description

Join us for a unique weaving experience at our new Ngumpie Weaving Workshop!

In this class, you will have the opportunity to create a beautiful wall piece using the ancient art of basket weaving. We will guide you through the traditional techniques that have been shared with Aboriginal people for centuries. Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage as you learn to weave a flat base that will be transformed into a stunning wall piece.

To add a touch of authenticity, we will adorn your creation with quondong seeds and emu feathers, symbolic elements derived from nature. These materials have been used by generations before us, allowing you to connect with the traditions and wisdom of the past.

Ngumpie, a word from the Barkindji language, translates to "beautiful." As you weave and shape your wall piece, you will witness the beauty of this craft coming to life before your eyes. Each step of the process will be a testament to the intricate skills and artistic expression embedded within the Aboriginal culture.

To enhance your experience, we will also offer a small taste of bush-infused food. Delight your senses with flavors that reflect the richness of the land and its natural bounty.

Whether you are a seasoned weaver or a beginner with no prior experience, this workshop is open to all skill levels. Join us at Ngumpie Weaving Workshop and embark on a journey that combines art, tradition, and the wonders of nature. Let your creativity flourish as you weave a piece that holds not only beauty but also a deep connection to country.

We look forward to weaving together an unforgettable experience with you.
