    Event description

Ngurra Kurlu (HOME) is a musical album by Warlpiri elders Wanta Steve Jampijinpa Patrick and his father Jerry Jangala Patrick OAM. Wanta and Jerry are senior lawmen from the remote desert community of Lajamanu, Northern Territory.

The 5 track album was recorded on country in Lajamanu and co-authored by music producer Monkey Marc, who has been working with Wanta and Jerry since 2012.

Ngurra Kurlu (HOME) will take you on a desert journey, starting at the crack of dawn, and travelling through the desert landscapes alive with meaning and knowledge from thousands of generations living with the land.

Over a cinematic soundscape, Wanta shares Warlpiri philosophy alongside Jerry’s traditional singing. Addressing all Australians, he talks about developing a deeper understanding of living on the Australian continent, and what it means to be a modern Australian on an ancient land.

Join us for the premiere screening of Ngurra Kurlu (HOME), ahead of the album's release later this year on ABC Music. This immersive presentation is accompanied by a film by Wanta and filmmaker James Gillot, shot on country in Lajamanu.

This event is supported by the City of Melbourne Arts Grants Program, ACMI, MusicNT and the Lajamanu Learning Centre, Batchelor Institute.
