NHMRC Investigator Grant 2027 – Heads-Up Session for Potential Applicants

The Grant Success Team is pleased to announce an upcoming heads-up session for researchers considering an application to the NHMRC Investigator Grant scheme for the 2027 round. This session will bring together Curtin researchers who previously served on NHMRC Investigator Grant assessor panels to share insights into the assessment process, what makes a competitive application, and common pitfalls to avoid.

This session is designed for:

• Researchers planning to apply for the 2027 round

• Those exploring an Investigator application but unsure whether to proceed

• Both Emerging and Senior researchers considering the scheme

The session will be informal and interactive, providing an opportunity to hear directly from experienced assessors and to ask questions that will support your decision-making and early-stage planning.

The objectives of the Investigator Grant scheme are:

• support the research program of outstanding investigators at all career stages

• consolidate salary and research support into a single grant scheme by offering a salary component (if required) and an RSP.

The intended outcomes of the Investigator Grant scheme are:

• flexibility for investigators to pursue important new research directions as they arise and to form collaborations as needed

• innovative and creative research

• opportunities for researchers at all career stages to establish their own research programs

• reduced application and peer review burden on researchers.

To support its objectives, the Investigator Grant scheme comprises 2 categories – Emerging Leadership (EL) and Leadership (L) (Category).
